How Do You Feed Your Mind?

From morning till night, consciously or unconsciously, you fill your mind with a variety of thoughts.

But the thoughts that you think of all day, have an impact not only on your actions, but they also act as a seed to what thoughts will further arise from them.

Feed your mind good thoughts, and only good things will come of it. Feed your mind bad thoughts, and only bad things will come of it.

When you sow a single thought of negativity, you not only end up acting on that thought, but that thought further makes your mind to think even more negative thoughts.

So, a single negative thought is like a negative seed which, over a period of time, grows into a negative plant which only bears hundreds of negative fruits on it. And each negative fruit further contains only negative seeds within it.

Thus, if you continue to feed your mind with even a single negative thought, your negativity only grows and grows, and causes you more and more suffering with each day.

The way to put an end to all this negativity, to all this suffering, is to do the exact opposite. Instead of sowing a negative thought in your mind, what if you sowed a positive one, or a right one in its place.

Then, that single positive thought, which is like a positive seed, will transform itself into a positive plant, which will contain only hundreds of positive fruits in it. And each positive fruit will further contain only positive seeds within it.

Thus, if you continue to feed your mind with even a single positive thought, your positivity only grows and grows, and causes you more and more happiness and peace with each day.

So, knowing that a negative thought has a negative influence in your life, and a positive thought has a positive influence, the question that you have to ask yourself is, “Which type of thoughts am I going to feed my mind?”

What you are today is nothing but a formation of thoughts and actions (based on those thoughts).

What you will be tomorrow will be nothing but a formation of thoughts and actions (based on your thoughts of tomorrow).

The only thing that can guarantee that your thoughts of tomorrow will be positive ones, the right ones, is to feed your mind with the positive thoughts today, starting from this moment.

Your thoughts are directly related to your actions. A thought of kindness will lead to an act of kindness. A thought of selfishness will lead to an act of selfishness.

The same way, a thought of the truth about your own nature will take you closer towards understanding your true nature. A thought of what’s not true about your own nature will take you further away from understanding your true nature.

If you seek peace in your everyday life, then it’s important that your thoughts, too, are peaceful. If you seek happiness in life, then it’s important that your thoughts, too, are full of happiness.

Just as you won’t feed your body with poisonous food, when you know fully well that eating such food can only harm your body, then why do you still keep feeding your mind with poisonous thoughts, when you know fully well that having such thoughts will only harm your peace and happiness of mind.

When you feed your body healthy food, your body becomes strong, you gain more control over your body, and you can rely on your body even on times of difficulty. The same way, when you feed your mind healthy thoughts, your mind becomes strong, you gain more control over your mind, and you can rely on your mind even on times of difficulty.

If you keep your mind well-fed, and continue to fill it with the right understanding every day, then nothing can come between you and your happiness, nothing can come between you and your peace of mind, and nothing can come between you and your understanding about your true nature.

A well-fed mind won’t only make you happy today, but it will also make you more capable tomorrow to understand the deeper teachings about mindfulness and meditation.
