It’s the start of a new year, and you may be working on your goals or resolutions you’ve set up for this year. I hope you gave yourself enough time to come up with the right resolutions, and a solid plan to achieve them.
And I’m sure your list of resolutions contains important things, which are likely to make your life happier than the last year. But, If you’ll allow me to add one more thing to your already long list of resolutions, I’ll add meditation at the top of it.
Every year, though we hope only for the best things in our life, yet in reality we have to face several disappointments and failures throughout the year. No matter how much you try, you won’t always be able to control everything in your life.
Just like every year, this year too will give you opportunities and challenges. And just like every year, this year too will give you your unique blend of success and failures. You may or may not be able to control your life situations, but the one thing that you can control is how you respond to them.
And that’s where our practice of meditation fits in. If you only meditate daily on your goals, on your life, on the temporary nature of every thing around you, you’ll see that any success or failure doesn’t really have the power to change who you are. Just like everything else in your life, your success and failures too will pass away. What are you left with then?
Well, the only thing you are left with is your same old self. And if what you do or don’t do doesn’t change who you are, should you stop taking actions and just sit idly? Definitely not!
What you can do instead is prepare yourself to face any situation in life, however pleasant or unpleasant it may be. And the tool that’ll help you in this endeavor is meditation.
If you don’t meditate already, then start your day with 5-10 minutes of meditation. Do it daily for a couple of weeks and see for yourself if meditation benefits you in any way. It will.
And if you face any difficulties in practicing your meditation, feel free to write to me any doubts you have. I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. Here is wishing you to a great meditative year ahead.
